Subject: fix and improve the elevators

 

The purpose of this memo is to fix and improve the elevators at CCNY, especially in North Academic Center building (NAC), which will be beneficial for everyone.

Summary                                                                                                                                        At this moment, there are four elevators in NAC. Elevators numbered 1 and 2 on one side and 3 and 4 on the other side, but they all have problems, they are slow, they stop at every floor without pressing the buttons, and they make loud sounds. So, I’m requesting to fix the four elevators in NAC building in a way that does not interrupt students from their daily movement to and from classes.

Discussion                                                                                                                                                Being late for classes is somewhat normal for this reason, I had to wait 15 minutes for the elevator to come, and not only the students, even the professors are dealing with same situations. You will probably think that if the elevators are taking so long we can use the escalators behind them, not putting in mind that most of the time the escalators are not working or being fixed. That leads us to the alternative which is to use the stairs when most the classes are on the fifth and sixth floors, so it is not only a waste of time, it is too much effort to put on college students.

A lot of people will say that this is a waste of money and time and there are more important things to focus on than fixing the elevators. I will say that there is nothing more important than a student’s time, it is right that we will spend time to rebuild the elevator system but we are going to save much more of people’s time after we finish. In addition, it will be under a plan that they are going to fix two elevators on one side so people can use them and when they are done they will fix the other two elevators on the other side. Also, they are going to start working on the elevators after they finish fixing the escalators and make sure they will not stop working again, that is how we improve a better system without interrupting students.

This will make students and staff go wherever they want faster and easier without worrying about time. Also, it will be a good reputation to visitors and the new students coming from high schools to let them know that this is the perfect college especially for an engineering college it is necessary to have a good mechanical system and to be in a good condition all the time.
